So I’m one of those obnoxious people who actually likes vegetables.

Over the summer, I made a smoothie every day that involved milk, frozen banana, peanut butter, and… spinach.

So when I heard that It’s Only Natural market had opened up a new juice bar that serves fresh juices including super healthy veggies, I had to check it out.

I headed down to ION on a sunny Friday morning with my friend Miranda. She ordered the Mixed Berry Smoothie, which is a classic combo of strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and apple juice. I almost tried the “Everything Nutritious” juice–complete with carrots, celery, spinach, beets, kale, garlic, parsley, and ginger–but even for me that sounded like too many veggies. I decided to go for the ‘Pure Bliss,’ which combines beets, apples, carrots and ginger.

My juice was a pretty hot pink color. I was expecting it to gain a little sweetness from the apples so it wouldn’t taste like a pure vegetable juice. Plus, beets are generally pretty sweet. But it didn’t matter, because there was so much ginger that I literally could not drink it at all. It burned my tongue and, although I like ginger, there was no other flavor. As much as I wanted to love this juice, the ratios were all off.

Miranda enjoyed her smoothie, but said there was a little too much apple juice and not enough berry.

The juice bar is still very new, and its possible that they are still figuring out the recipes. Next time I’ll definitely try a juice without veggies – the ‘Apple Pineapple’ one is calling my name!
