We’re Adrie and Haley, some of the laziest and hungriest freshmen you will ever get to know.

Armed with a fridge, a microwave, and a couple of “appropriated” utensils,  we like to get experimental with our dorm food. We’re excited to be sharing our favorite recipes that are easy to make from the comfort of our own rooms.

We understand that some of you might not simply have these ingredients lying around your dorm, so we’re bringing you recipes made with ingredients you can buy on campus at Weshop.

We recently discovered that yes, it’s true – it’s actually possible to make pasta in the microwave (a celebratory dance party may have ensued)..So we decided to forego the traditional sauce selection and grabbed a few avocados to make a creamier sauce. We’d heard rumors about avocado pasta recipes so here is our version—the dorm-friendly and equally (if not more) delicious version.

Avocado – $1.29

Barilla penne pasta – $2.19

Lemon – 79¢

Olive oil (Filippo Berio) – $9.49

Garlic salt – $4.29

Morton salt/pepper combo – $2.39

Directions:

  1. Take a handful of pasta. Put it in a microwave-safe bowl and fill it with water an inch above the pasta.
  2. Put the pasta in the microwave. The cook time varies, but it normally takes about 10-12 minutes.
  3. Cut the avocado and scrap half into a separate bowl.
  4. Cut your lemon in half and remove any visible seeds. Squeeze the lemon half into the avocado mixture.
  5. Add olive oil – either a capful or 1 tbsp.
  6. Garlic salt should be added to taste
  7. Add salt (and pepper) to taste.
  8. Mash ingredients into a paste. download-2
  9. Take pasta out of the microwave. Pour any excess water out of the bowl carefully.
  10. Mix the pasta and the sauce and enjoy!
