In Ania Makes and Bakes, freshmen Ania Rojek explores the wondrous world of cooking in her Butt C kitchen.

Nothing excites me more than getting a group of friends together and catching up over some fresh made dessert or a hearty dinner. It’s my first year in Butts C and I’m adjusting to my kitchen necessities. Back in Chicago, where I’m from, I always had everything on hand. Now, as a college student it’s time to get a little more creative!

In honor of Valentine’s day, I baked two of my most loved desserts: White chocolate Macademia cookies & Chocolate covered strawberries. If it was possible for me to survive on them… I totally would.

Here’s how we make this deliciousness come to life….

White Chocolate Macademia Cookie Ingredients:

  1. 1 cup butter, softened
  2. 1 cup granulated sugar
  3. 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  4. 2 teaspoons vanilla
  5. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  6. 2 eggs
  7. 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  8. 1 teaspoons baking soda
  9. 10 ounces white chocolate (chips or bars cut in chunks)
  10. 1 cup macadamia nuts, chopped into chunks

  1.  Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, and salt with electric mixer until creamy OR, alternatively, tone those hand muscles with a large wooden spoon
  2. Add eggs, beat well. Stir together flour, and the baking soda; gradually add to butter mixture,beating until well blended.
  3. Stir in white chocolate chips and macadamia nuts. 
  4. Drop rounded teaspoons of the batter onto an ungreased cookie sheet
  5. bake for eight to ten minutes at 375 F


Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Ingredients: 

  1. 1 teaspoon of extra virgin coconut oil
  2. 1 teaspoon of sugar or honey (or sweetened milk chocolate for the dark chocolate)
  3. coconut flakes


Note: it's best to take a larger pot, fill it up with water, and place this pot into the boiling water.

  1. Put the chocolate and extra virgin coconut oil into a small pot on the stove. 
  2. Add the sugar or honey
  3. Once melted, dip each strawberry into the mixture, then coat with coconut flakes.
